My Favorite Girl Bio - Trish Shallest and Jen Czeisler

What is it about Seattle that nurtures such creativity? Continuously forging the re-invention of musical inspirations and presenting new genres of sound to the world? Possibly endless rainy days spent indoors, dreaming of melodic escapes and exploring the rhythms of tropical adventures left un-discovered for 8 months of the year! Who knows for sure, but Seattle duo “My Favorite Girl,” featuring Trish Shallest and Jennifer Czeisler are the next to emerge from the misty, dew covered Emerald city to serenade the world with their earthy, melodic tales of life, love and all the adventures in between .

The Northwest duo of singer/songwriters, Shallest and Czeisler weave their powerfully sweet harmonies and haunting counter melodies with colorful hooks in their musical story telling. Their brand new CD “Another Bite at the Apple” began with Trish and Jen and an acoustic guitar, creating strong songs with a powerful impact when performed by the two singers and their bass and acoustic guitar. Shallest and Czeisler went into Studio Litho in Seattle to produce their debut duo recordings in 2008, intending an organic acoustic feeling record. However, throughout the recording process these tunes grew into a full length CD built on a solid acoustic foundation but polished with shimmery electric hooks swirling around sparkling baby grand piano melodies and peppered with rocking rhythmic beats and percussion. The resulting record is a powerful, current and relevant example of having faith in the amazing creative process and what you can accomplish with talent, hard work and staying open to whatever paths and musings destiny leads you towards.

“Another Bite at the Apple” engages the listener from the start with the sincere musings in the CD opener “Kingmaker,” prompting you to ponder how a leader is created through the power of those who follow. “Blue Eyes” is a sultry musical seduction luring the listener into a forbidden lullaby and rockers like “Step Inside”, “Better Day” and “Superstitious” tell their own curious life tales, while invoking a musical vibe of vintage Stones meets a more pop, harmony laden ‘Tegan and Sara’ with the mysterious quality of a Fleetwood Mac, if that is possible. The happy sounding, harmonically sweet summer song “Dreamer” is balanced out with the darker, electric guitar heavy melancholy “Can’t Let go.” The heart of the CD is worn on its sleeve with the sentimental tunes; “Daughter” and “Simpler Time,” who merge emotions and intellect to create a powerful listening experience wrought with a sense of innocence, dejavu and a longing for the kind of experiences felt in youth and reflected on later in life. This is a record that draws you in from the first listen but keeps you thinking and feeling and learning more about the music, the tales and yourself with each additional listen.

The songwriting Chanteuse duo of “My Favorite Girl” features Trish Shallest and Jennifer Czeisler who played together in Seattle band “Slugger” in the late 90’s. Trish’s former band mate, Michael Crouse referred Jen to the band and their musical friendship was instantaneous and powerful. With the band “Slugger”, Trish and Jen enjoyed playing on bills with buddy bands like Super Deluxe and Micro Mini and National bills with The Marvelous 3 and Verbena at sold out shows, reaping the benefits of a robust music scene in Seattle at the height of it’s musical golden age. They were featured in a holiday promo for the WB and licensed songs for the internet, television and their song “Heaven Knows” appeared in the 2003 Indie flick, “Personal Velocity” written by Rebecca Miller and starring Kyra Sedgwick and Parker Posey

After Slugger, Jen started a band called “The March Lions” with her husband Adam Czeisler, from Sweetwater and local rocker Stone Gossard on drums. She also played bass and sang in a Pixies tribute band called “#13 Baby” with notable local music figures Jeff Barnes, Craig Montgomery and Jason Finn from “The Presidents of the United States”, while working at the Seattle Indie label Subpop for the last 10 years.

Trish recorded and produced her solo CD titled “Everything comes from nothing.” which featured the first songwriting collaboration from Shallest and Czeisler on two of the songs on the CD and Jen played Bass on 12 of the 14 tracks on the record. Shallest called on local musician friends like: Jon Auer (the Posies), Andrew McKeag (Shuggie and The Presidents of the United States), Nabil Ayers (Alien Crime Syndicate and The Long Winters), Adam Czeisler (Sweetwater) and Amy Stolzenbach (Hells Belles and Carri Akre) to play on her debut CD. Shallest also sang in a Heart tribute band called “Bebe Le Strange” with Liz Herron from “Ruby Dee and the Snake Handlers” and Jon Hedges from “Fire Weed” and “Inflatable Soul”. Both Liz and Jon played in the Trish Shallest band at shows around Seattle and most notably were finalists in the Bon Jovi “Have a Nice Gig Tour” contest.

Trish and Jen called on two of their musical friends to perform with them on the recording of My Favorite Girls CD “Another Bite of the Apple.” Jon Hedges, from Trish’s live band played drums on all 10 tracks. Michael Crouse, their golden link so many years ago came into the studio to lay down the electric lead melodies and sparkling harmonic guitar touches they were seeking. Liz and Michael have since joined with Trish and Jen as permanent members of the “My Favorite Girl” musical family.

“Another Bite of the Apple” will be/was released April of 2009 on “Golden City” records For more information contact the group at www.myfavoritegirlmusic.com
